Keith received a Bachelor of Science degree in special and elementary education with an emphasis in mental retardation, and a Master of Arts degree in special education with an emphasis in orientation mobility for the blind. Both degrees were obtained from the University of Arizona in 1977 and 1978 respectively. Keith also holds an Ed.D. degree from Northern Arizona University in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in special education. An employee of the Institute of Human Development since 1978, Keith coordinates sensory services for individuals who are visually impaired.
As an Orientation Mobility Specialist, Keith’s focus can be generally described as, “Helping people improve their ability to move safely and efficiently through the environment.” Sensory Services includes two programs for individuals who are visually impaired. A vocational rehabilitation program serving those individuals preparing to join the ranks of the employed, and a program focusing on helping individuals improve daily living skills outside of the vocational realm. The stated mission of Sensory Services is, “A commitment to providing an individual with a knowledge and skill base to maximize independent life skills.”
