A journal kept by Tad Nichols from Hite to Lee's Ferry in 1952. Entries, July 1-10, 1952, cover the trip from the time they left Flagstaff by car, the camping and hiking on the way, and the river trip experience.
Biography/History
Tad Nichols graduated from the University of Arizona with degrees in geology and anthropology. While in Tucson, he also studied photography; later he continued these studies with Ansel Adams and Brett Weston. He often worked as a scientific photographer. In June, 1950, Nichols ran the San Juan and Colorado rivers through Glen Canyon, serving as a cameraman for a Los Angeles television producer. Nichols continued to explore Glen Canyon and made thirty trips through Glen Canyon between 1950-1963. Nichols' photographs have been published in books and periodicals, including Natural History, U.S. Camera, Arizona Highways and National Geographic.
